Is dental work in Vietnam safe?

The short answer

Is dental work in Vietnam safe? The answer depends on the clinic, the dentist and the paperwork, not the country. Vietnam has excellent clinics and bad ones, exactly like Australia, the United States, Canada and every other country. Almost all of this can be checked before you fly. This guide shows how.

Why safety depends on the clinic, not the country

"Is Vietnam safe for dental work" is the most searched version of the safety question. That question cannot be answered as asked. An autoclave is the machine that sterilises instruments. Vietnam has clinics with autoclave logs going back years, and clinics that will not show you one.

The useful question is narrower: is this clinic, with this dentist, for this procedure, safe. Most of the answer comes from documents.

What you can check about a clinic before you fly

You can check more about a clinic than people expect, before you fly. Each check is a document or something you can see, not an opinion. A clinic that treats international patients should be able to show them.

WhatHow you check it
The clinic is licensedAsk for the operating licence from the Ministry of Health, and check it matches the trading name and the address.
Your dentist is registeredAsk for the practising registration of every dentist who would treat you, including any second dentist who places the implant.
Sterilisation is realAsk for autoclave and sterilisation records, and for how instruments are tracked from tray to patient.
The equipment existsAsk if 3D imaging and digital scanning are used daily on site. Ask to see them on video.
The lab is namedAsk which lab makes crowns, bridges and arches (full rows of teeth), by name, and for its certification.
The dentist has done cases like yoursAsk for the dentist's number of cases and examples for your exact procedure, not the clinic's.
The brand is realAsk for the implant or material brand in writing. Ask for proof of supply (proof the clinic really buys that brand), not a logo.
The warranty is writtenAsk for years, coverage, exclusions and the claim process, in writing, before you agree.

These are eight of the 18 checks we run before a clinic can be sent a patient. The full self check list is in our guide on how to check a dental clinic in Vietnam yourself.

What you cannot check about a clinic from home

Two things about a clinic cannot be checked from home, and they matter most on treatment day.

  • What the clinic is like on an ordinary working day, such as a Tuesday. A tour or a brochure is not the same as walking in while patients are treated. So a Dental Link advisor who lives in the city does our clinic vetting in person, never by video call.
  • What happens when something goes wrong. Every clinic looks good until then. The signs to look for are outcome data (how past treatments turned out) and complaint history. Another sign is what past patients say months later. So we ask for treatment records and follow up every patient we send to a clinic.

Why nobody honest can promise a medical result

Dental Link will not guarantee a medical result, and nobody honest can. We are not dentists and do not give treatment advice. You meet your dentist, see the clinic and get a written plan before you agree to anything. Then you follow your clinic's instructions.

What we do guarantee is the process. That means your airport pickup. It also means an advisor in the room with you at the clinic, translating your plan and warranty. It means check-ins, written quotes at the clinic's own price and a named person who answers. If a company promises you an outcome, be more careful.

Six warning signs that should stop you booking a clinic

  • A clinic that will not show you a licence, the laboratory it uses, or an autoclave log.
  • A price agreed in the chair, not in a written itemised plan before treatment.
  • A quote with no brand named, or a brand that changes after you pay a deposit.
  • A large deposit demanded before you have met anyone.
  • A warranty described verbally, or one you cannot read in your own language.
  • Pressure to add treatment you did not come for.

Each of these six signs also gets a clinic taken off Dental Link's list.

Questions about dental safety in Vietnam, answered plainly.

Is Vietnam good for dental implants?

Vietnam has clinics that place a lot of implants, with materials from the same global market as clinics at home. Published 2026 prices in Vietnam are well below prices in Australia, the United States and Canada. Vietnam also has clinics Dental Link would not send anyone to. The answer depends on the clinic, the dentist's past cases like yours, and the documents.

How good are Vietnamese dentists?

It depends on the dentist, so Dental Link checks each one, not just the clinic. We look at training, years in the speciality and any postgraduate implant or prosthodontic (tooth replacement) qualification. We also look at how many times they have done your exact procedure. A good clinic with the wrong dentist for your case is still the wrong match.

What if I have a medical emergency in the dental chair?

Emergency readiness is one of the 18 checks: the clinic's equipment, its protocol and its link with the nearest hospital. Dental Link asks about this before a clinic is listed, not after something happens.

Is the water safe? Do I need to worry about infection control?

For general travel health, such as the water, ask your own doctor or read your government's travel advice. For your treatment, what matters is infection control in the clinic. It is check 6 of Dental Link's clinic vetting. An autoclave is the machine that sterilises instruments. We look at autoclave and sterilisation records. We look at single use items where single use is expected. We also look for instrument tracking we can follow from tray to patient. Any lapse takes a clinic off our list.

What happens if my dental work goes wrong after I fly home?

Your chosen clinic has its own warranty, terms and conditions and guarantees. They should be clearly explained and included in your quote before you agree to treatment. If the warranty covers an issue, the remedial dental treatment for it is covered according to the clinic's warranty terms. Remedial treatment means dental work to fix the problem. Your Patient Link Advisor at Dental Link manages it with the clinic in Vietnamese. Travel and accommodation are generally not included. Need to return to Vietnam for remedial work? Any arrangements or assistance with flights and accommodation can be discussed directly with your Patient Link Advisor. If a clinical question comes up, we take it back to your treating dentist. We do not answer it ourselves.

Ask someone at Dental Link your safety questions. We have walked through every clinic we match you with.

Start with a 10-minute phone call with Dental Link. Within 24 hours, you get two vetted clinics matched to your case, each with a walk through video. Each clinic sends you a written quote. If Vietnam is not right for you, we say so on the call.
